Governor Carcieri announces a new initiative by the Rhode island Economic Development Corporation called "Every Company Counts", a centralized resource to provide small businesses with the tools they need to grow. October 13, 2004

Governor Carcieri arrives at the Naval War College in Newport for his Emergency Preparedness Summit. Attendees included the directors of many of the state's departments, the RI National Guard, first responders and support personnel. The summit was organized in answer to the Titan Report, an outside consultant's analysis of the state's response to The Station nightclub fire in February 2003.

Governor Carcieri today announced United HealthCare submitted the winning bid for the contract to administer state employee health care. The state expects to save $25.3 million in administrative costs over the three year term of the contract by switching to this new provider. October 7, 2004

The grant will pay for testing of water quality at state beaches. Governor and Mrs. Carcieri congratulate Paul Magyar of Classical High School in Providence, for submitting the Science Fair project that won the "Governor's Award". Magyar's project, titled "The Impact of Dissolved Copper and Lead on Biological Activity in Narragansett Bay", earned him top ratings in the 2004 Engineering and Science Fair and the award is an unpaid internship in an area of state government dealing with his topic. Twenty-two students from middle schools and high schools, whose science projects were rated the highest, were guests at a Governor's reception at the State House. March 26, 2004
